cycleboat and energytrees - landmarks for a greener Copenhagen |
During the United Nations Climate Change enhagen (5th Dec 2009 – 18th Dec 2009) the UIA (Union Internationale des Architectes) conducts a student workshop for visions of a greener, better future. Taking a former military area in Copnhagen as an example student-groups from four different countries invented visions how to (Re)furbish and transform the existing Copenhagen.
Our group (polish, chinese, italien, german) focused on the specific topic -public and private space- in the realm of sustainability and climatechange: The new installations mark a new sustainable lifestyle for this area and also for the city. People coming by ship to Copenhagen first see the landmark-installation of the energy-trees and the cycle-boat.
The well adapted system of extending and compressing public space is the answer to the different seasonal habits of the people. It has for result less land-use, so we can build with higher density. This generates more users for the functions in the area.
On a social level, we want to generate more responsibility towards the public space. We suggest establishing a project day and cooperating more with the habitants in questions of shaping their environment. The responsibility has for result less service and maintenance on the city-level and continuous development of the environment.
